Blowing in wind
It is harrowing to read concerns about our exponential rise in electricity costs, while at the same time The Scottish Government enthusiastically supports wind farms.
It may interest readers to know that because of its maniacal obsession with wind power, South Australia has just achieved the unenviable status of having the highest power prices in the world, closely followed by another wind-powered contender, Denmark. It’s almost impossible to read an article about South Australia’s economic misfortunes in which there is no mention of routine loadshedding and mass blackouts.
It is no comfort to know that the poorest bill-payers in our own country will shortly be stumping up a simply staggering £2,600,000,000 for the demonstrably useless, Beatrice offshore wind farm about to be pile-driven into our own Moray Firth! GEORGE HERRAGHTY Lothlorien, Lhanbryde
Elgin Moray The truth is out on the issue of the wind turbines with the publication of a Yougov poll, as 55 per cent of tourists indicated they would be less likely to visit areas with wind turbines and electricity pylons.
The current SNP energy policy promotes these expensive and invasive wind turbines, with many planning applications out to extend the scarring of the Scottish hillsides and damaging of the tourist industry that many in the Scottish Highlands depend on for their living.
Time for a change in the way ahead for energy sources for Scotland and I do hope that the SNP administration take onboard this poll and re-think their energy policy. DENNIS FORBES GRATTAN
