#BBCPAY

The BBC has published the salaries of all star presenters, journalists and actors who have earned more than £150,000 – the salary of the Prime Minister – in the past year. @Jimfromoldham said: “Some BBC salaries will be big numbers. But I’m not sure holding them up to Prime Ministers salary is best comparison at the moment.” @WMCHBG offered: “We pay an old man £550k a year to read the news. If the workers don’t contribute, we jail them. We laugh at North Korea for less.” @Garyburgessitv added: “1.7p an hour per household for the BBC. No matter how much their top earners get, that’s bloody good value!” @sue94_ commented: “I wouldn’t care as much about the #BBCPAY if nurses, firefighters, police officers etc were getting paid a decent bloody wage. Scandalous.” @alstewitn said: “Breaking an embargo, with stuff we’ve all been sitting on for hours, is not a ‘scoop’, it is naff, delusional & unprofessional.”

#PENSIONS

The rise in the pension age to 68 will now be phased in between 2037 and 2039, rather than from 2044 as was originally proposed. Those affected are currently between the ages of 39 and 47. @Jonnelledge said: “The fun part will be when people who still rent find no one will employ them because of their age, but they’re still too young for a pension.” @Fraserwhyte81 said: “Not sure what people objecting to increasing the pension age see as the alternative. Status quo is unsustainable, no?” @ariichn7 offered “This is only about the state pension. There is no longer a fixed retirement age for company or personal pensions.”

#DUPCHALLENGE

The Scottish and Welsh governments have started a formal dispute process over the UK government’s deal with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). @Davidherdson said: “The SNP have three times as many MPS as the DUP. Just think what leverage they could have extracted had they been willing to talk.” @Johnstanners added: “It’s a highly questionable deal, and how it’s funded even more questionable. There is no doubt Barnett should apply.” @Secondcherry offered: “The DUP deal is illegal and contravenes the Good Friday Agreement.”
