Former Hibs player’s assault trial collapses
A former Hibs footballer has walked free from an assault charge.
Darren Mccormack, 28, was cleared of attacking Joseph Haughian by punching him “four or five times” to the face during a confrontation in Leith, Edinburgh.
The trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court collapsed yesterday after the only witness to give evidence claimed he saw Mr Haughian being aggressive and believed Mccormack was acting in self defence.
Defender Mccormack was cleared of repeatedly attempt- ing to punch Haughian on the head and body, punch him to the head and cause him to fall to the ground during the incident at Academy Street, Edinburgh, on 28 September last year.
