For­mer Hibs player’s as­sault trial col­lapses

A for­mer Hibs foot­baller has walked free from an as­sault charge.

Darren Mccor­mack, 28, was cleared of at­tack­ing Joseph Haugh­ian by punch­ing him “four or five times” to the face dur­ing a con­fronta­tion in Leith, Ed­in­burgh.

The trial at Ed­in­burgh Sher­iff Court col­lapsed yes­ter­day af­ter the only wit­ness to give ev­i­dence claimed he saw Mr Haugh­ian be­ing ag­gres­sive and be­lieved Mccor­mack was act­ing in self de­fence.

De­fender Mccor­mack was cleared of re­peat­edly at­tempt- ing to punch Haugh­ian on the head and body, punch him to the head and cause him to fall to the ground dur­ing the in­ci­dent at Acad­emy Street, Ed­in­burgh, on 28 Septem­ber last year.
