#CHARLIEGARD

Chris Gard and Connie Yates, parents of terminally ill Charlie Gard, have withdrawn their request to have Charlie flown to the US for experimental treatment. @Robinmooreband said: “Heartbreaking. No one knows unless you’ve been there.” @elehcimaya posted: “Imagine the treatment #Charliegard could have received if there weren’t so many hearings. He may have had a fighting chance.” @Steff_gino tweeted: “Wasted all this time and now it’s too late - heartbroken and devastated.” @Tammyallman1: “Heartbroken for the parents but Great Ormond Street Hospital is amazing with truly incredible staff. In awe of level of skill and care in cardiac wing.”

#BOJO

The UK Foreign Minister is on a two-day trip to New Zealand. He was treated to a traditional Maori greeting, which he likened to a headbutt, saying it could be “misinterpreted” if used in a pub in Glasgow. @lowdownmandem tweeted: “As a Glaswegian emigree to NZ, I experienced a full body cringe when I saw this.” @clarke442 said: “May picked Boris to be Foreign Sec, so she could see him fail badly, preventing him from challenging her leadership.” @web_rant said: “Whenever you want to strengthen those ties, Boris Johnson is the last man you call for the job.” @Snetibutr added: “He’s actually right about something. Shocking indeed!”

#SHRINKFLATION

The Office of National Statistics (ONS) has published a report on ‘shrinkflation’. The term means a smaller product but an unchanged price. The ONS says that over 2,500 products have got smaller, with around 80 per cent of those being food. @pcassidy_uk said: “Cadbury should rename Freddo to Fredo.” @Darrengrant_uk tweeted: “Smaller portions might be a good thing in the long run. People tend to eat a whole Mars Bar. If it is smaller, surely that is good?” @Nomisswfc posted: “Don’t mind it being smaller but I do mind being charged the same price. Feels like theft.”

#CHESTERBENNINGTON

Linkin Park has issued a statement in memory of their lead singer, Chester Bennington, four days after his death. @pleasedonotsir: “This is such a beautiful and eloquent message. Thanks so much for everything.”
