Islands sunnier than Cornwall in July

The Shetland Islands had more sunshine than Cornwall last month, according to new figures from the Met Office.

Heavy rain throughout July saw the UK as a whole receive 22 per cent more rainfall than average.

Northern Ireland was the region with the most rainfall with 4.45 inches – 39 per cent above its monthly average.

Shetland saw more sunshine than Cornwall in July – only the eighth time this has happened since records began in 1929.

The average rainfall in the Shetland Islands for July is 2.68 inches.
