Auchterard­er We had all this discussion only a few years ago and a referendum on 5 May 2011 settled the matter for the UK. It was to keep the first past the post. Far from ‘creating a much-broader discussion of politics’, any form of proportion­al representa­tion would precipitat­e the same paralysis we see in countries like France and Italy where different forms of voting occur. – Corrigenda It’s not entirely clear what a “wasted vote” is. Clearly proportion­al representa­tion is a system that ensures the Pseudo intellectu­al guff. It’s the nature of any vote that some people won’t get the result they want. – Steve White
