Paddle steamer is damaged in crash on Bute
Scotland’s most famous ship was out of action last night after crashing into a wall.
Waverley – the world’s only remaining sea-going paddle steamer – hit the base of the promenade at Rothesay after becoming tangled in a rope.
The incident yesterday afternoon meant she could not reverse while trying to leave the pier on the Isle of Bute. The vessel then edged forward and struck the stonework. A spokesman for Waverley Excursions said the weekend’s Clyde sailings had been cancelled. No-one was injured.
