The family of a teenager who was killed when the car he was driving crashed into a van have told how he “dreamed big” and was “always making others smile”.

Police Scotland confirmed Abdul Sajjad, 17, from Edinburgh, had been pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the city on Sunday. Two other males were also hurt in the incident, with a 21-year-old being treated for serious injuries at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary while a 15-year-old was discharged.

The crash happened at about 9:25pm on Sunday in the capital’s Regent Road when the Ford Fiesta the three males were in collided with a parked Citroen Relay van.

In a statement Abdul’s family said: “Abdul was an independent man who worked hard and dreamed big, putting others in front of himself and always making others smile.”
