Discipline, please

-

It is a national disgrace that educational leaders and government planners have allowed teachers workloads to become quite out of control.

Four out of ten teachers planning to leave tells a story of demoralisation and depressed attitudes which shows how perfectionism in education has led to a collapse of duty of care. We have to see an immediate response to teachers’ needs instead of more wishywashy promises. If even some of these teachers leave, there will be an added stress burden to the remaining colleagues.

How can Scottish education hope to rise from its lowly position in world league tables without a total overhaul of management and ethos? Discipline also needs to be taken far more seriously than it is at the moment.
