True to Life: British Realist Painting in the 1920s and 1930s
Between the wars, Modernism was in full cry, but if some British artists were not persuaded by it, that didn’t mean they were just fuddy-duddies. A lot of them continued to paint in a way that looked back to the Prerapahelites and High Victorian painting even while taking account of the new styles. True to Life: British Painting in the 1920s and 1930s brings together a remarkable collection of their work and much of it is very beautiful.
