- By WILLIAM DICK

Richie Berrington last night hit his highest international score as Scotland opened their short tour of Australia with a stunning win over New Zealand side Auckland Aces.

The Clydesdale batsman raced to a brilliant 145 from only 131 balls as the Scots posted 311 for five at the Bill Pippen Oval, Queensland. Berrington shared a third wicket stand of 141 withc alum Macleod, who made 74, as Scotland recovered from 30 for two after the loss of Matthew Cross and skipper Kyle Coetzer.

Berrington, pictured, totally dominated the Auckland attack, stroking 13 fours and two sixes before finally falling to the former Uddingston pro Matt Mcewan. George Munsey also weighed in with a run-a-ball 33 as the Scots piled on the runs.

Safyaan Sharif struck to remove Michael Guptillbunce with the first ball of Auckland’s reply but a century from Glenn Phillips put the New Zealanders back on course, while Ben Horne added 76 as the Scots were made to fight all the way.

However, Chris Sole pickedup three crucial wickets to secure an impressive 19-run victory.

The sides meet again tomorrow before Scotland head to Papua New Guinea for an Intercontinental Cup clash and two World Cricket League fixtures against the Pacific Islanders.
