new Scotland goalkeeper Lee Alexander. Then the ten-time champions took control.

Republic of Ireland captain Katie Mccabe nearly opened the scoring with a powerful shot but Jenna Fife made a fine save, turning the ball round the post for a corner. The Hibs keeper was then beaten by the same player nine minutes later, Mccabe taking advantage of slack play before scoring with a crisp shot from the edge of the box.

Nearly all the chances fell to the home side, and Hayley Lauder came close to adding a second before half-time. It was much the same at the start of the second period but, after making a couple of early substitutions, Hibs finally hauled themselves into the game on the hour.

Lucy Graham shot over the bar from close range and then Alexander, who had been lucky to survive an earlier handling error, made a brave block to deny Lisa Robertson.

Both sides are at home on Sunday, then Hibs have a chance to regain some ground on Wednesday when they play their game in hand against Celtic. The two leaders will meet for the final time on the penultimate Sunday of the season in November.
