Probe after five injured in Canada terror attack
A car and knife attack on a police officer outside a Canadian Football league game and a high-speed chase of a moving van that left four people injured are being investigated as terror acts, authorities said.
Edmonton Police Chief Rod Knecht said one man, aged 30, had been arrested over the incidents in the western city of Edmonton.
Last night Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called it a terror attack.
The officer was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed outside a match.
A few hours later, a van was stopped at a checkpoint north of downtown before it sped off. As it was being chased by police cars the driver swerved at pedestrians at crossings and four people were hurt.
The van eventually crashed and the suspect was arrested. An IS flag was found in the vehicle.
Mr Kecht said: “It is believed these two incidents are related and are being investigated as acts of terrorism.”
