Why it’s cool to live the dream

-

Ian Rankin has said he would rather have been a successful musician than a successful author. Surprising? Perhaps not.

Few of us are fortunate enough to follow our true passion throughout life, and make it pay.

But the message we take from the six “dad rockers” – all in their forties and fifties – who have formed new band Best Picture, is that it’s never too late to follow your dream.

Chances are they won’t hit the top ten at Christmas with their debut single Isabelle ( although it is rather catchy) – but who cares? They are having a tonne of fun and living life to the full, right down to the pink vinyl.

And that first gig will be incredible, too.

Some will sneer and laugh. But doing what others least expect of you is half the fun. So don’t be shy, be gallus.

It really is never too late. As Frank Sinatra sang: “Don’t you know that it’s worth Every treasure on earth to be young at heart For as rich as you are It’s much better by far to be young at heart.”
