The Secretary of State for International Development flew back into London yesterday at the request of the Prime Minister amid a political storm. Priti Patel’s front bench future was in severe doubt last night after it emerged she held unauthorised meetings with Israeli politicians earlier this year. @Bethrigby warned: “Patel is being flown home now at request of the PM. Her fate? ‘Not looking good’ is how govt source puts it. So, that’ll be two cabinet ministers gone in the space of week. Damian Green inquiry still outstanding.” @hijakejohnstone joked: “If your day is getting off to a bad start, guaranteed it’s better than the one Priti Patel is having.” @Kirstystricklan added: “Being forced to sack Priti Patel 24 hours after Downing Street declared the matter ‘closed’ is excruciatingly embarrassing for May. That Boris remains; even more so.”

Congrats! #newborn #babygirl #Winning.” @Angrypeanut4 joked: “Andy Murray struggles to contain his excitement at the birth of his second child #Andymurray.” @Valddesborough said: “OMG! Can hardly contain my excitement! He’s back! #andymurray.” @rogerfederer added: “Great to see you back on court @andy_murray … thanks for having me in Glasgow.”

#NORTHERNLIGHTS

A moderate geomagnetic storm meant the Aurora Borealis was visible across parts of Scotland, including Edinburgh. @Lynsay said: “Bonus of village living: Aurora Borealis tonight. #Aberdeenshire #Scotland #Northernlights…” @sparklejax posted: “Finally seen the Northern Lights tonight. Would have been better had it not been for a very bright moon tonight. #Edinburgh #Aurora #Northernlights.”
