US firm invests in new facility for data centres

- BY PERRY GOURLEY

US electrical manufacturer Leviton has opened a new facility at its Glenrothes cabling site aimed at helping data centre customers cut costs.

The company, which has had a presence in Scotland since it acquired Fife cabling firm Brand-rex in 2015, said the facility would support clients across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

It will supply made to order “pre-terminated” cables which already have connectors fitted without customers having to do it themselves on site at data centres.

Ian Wilkie, managing director of Brand-rex, said: “As data centre systems grow more complex, using pre-terminated infrastructure reduces downtime, labour costs, waste and maintenance.”

Bruno Filio, vice president of business development for Leviton, said the facility represented a significant investment in staff and equipment and was modelled on the group’s Us-based factories.
