Farms of the year winners revealed

A Borders husband and wife team took home the coveted Scottish Sheep Farm of the Year award from Agriscot yesterday.

Andrea and Charley Walker from Abbey St Bathans near Duns were announced winners at the event, taking the hotlyconte­sted title back to their 250 hectare Barnside unit in the Lammermiur hills.

However,whileanumb­er of producers in the shortlist for the new arable farm section came from the Lothians and Borders area, thewinnerw­aspetercha­pman of South Redbog, a family unit near Strichen, Aberdeensh­ire.

The beef farm of the year award went to Dumfries and Galloway and was

0 Andrea and Charley Walker, sheep farmers of the year picked up by the Fleming family of Robert, John and Rachel who operate at Castle Sinniness near Glenluce.

Meanwhile, Wm. Hamilton & Son of Meldrum, Blairdrumm­ond lifted the Scottish dairy farm award.

The winner of the business skills award, which was Andrew Mcgregor, a dairy farmer from Carluke.

In the silage classes, the dairy section was won by Andrew Baird, for a sample produced on Auchontroc­h, Lesmahagow, the new beef and sheep silage class went to the Lilburn Estates team from North Middleton, Wooler while the big bale silage section award went to Colin Davidson of Halymyre, Castle Douglas.
