Ex- minister tells PM not to ‘ flog dead Brexit horse’

- By PARIS GOURTSOYANNIS

A former Brexit minister is calling on Theresa May to walk away from talks in Brussels if progress isn’ t made by December.

David Jones, who was David Davis’ deputy in the B rex it department until June, will urge the Prime Minister to suspend negotiations if talks on a future UK- EU trade deal are not approved by EU leaders. He will also call on the government to begin “serious preparations” for a no- deal Brexit.

In a speech to a conference in London today, Mr Jones will say: “If the Prime Minister does not receive confirmation that the EU will now start talking seriously about the future relationship, we should tell them we are suspending negotiations until they are ready to do so.

“There is nothing to be gained by continuing to flog a dead horse.”
