‘Square Mile’ jobs have spread their Scots’ wings
Jobs typically linked with London and the “Square Mile” are now widely recognised as making up a “vital” part of the Scottish economy, a leading City trade body said in a report yesterday.
Almost four out of five people (78 per cent) in Scotland now see financial and related professional services (FRPS) (including banking, legal services, insurance, accountancy, fund management and management consultancy) as important to their local economy, said Thecityuk.
The group, holding its first national conference in Manchester yesterday, urged national and local government to support regional and national hubs to develop clear regional specialisations to enable them to continue to flourish into the future.
Miles Celic, chief executive of Thecityuk, said, “There is often a misconception (most) financial and related professional services jobs are located in London. That is far from the truth, with most of these so-called ‘City jobs’ spread right across the country.”
