An elderly man has been seriously injured after being attacked by a dog walker near Leith Links.

The 70-year-old had been on Wellington Place at 2:50pm last Tuesday when he was assaulted.

He sustained a serious facial injury following an altercation with a man who was walking a ‘Rottweiler-type’ dog along Duncan Place and into Wellington Place.

Detective Constable Alastair Paisley, from Gayfield CID, said: “This was a senseless and vicious attack resulting in serious injuries for the victim.

“We are keen to trace the man walking a Rottweilertype breed of dog who was seen to run off in the direction of Duke Street following the attack.

“The area was busy with other pedestrians and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the assault to contact police immediately.”

The injured man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and released following treatment. The suspect is described as a white male, about 20 years old, with a stocky build and mid-length brown hair.
