Raith Rovers snatched a point in injury time to earn a 2-2 draw at Airdrie and ensure that their title hopes did not suffer a major disappointment.

The Kirkcaldy men took the lead on 23 minutes when a reverse pass from Lewis Vaughan released Greig Spence and he ventured into the home box before poking home from eight yards out.

The hosts hit back a minute later when Luke Watt chipped to Scott Stewart at the back post and his knockdown was blasted into the net by Jack Hastie. It got even better for Airdrie seven minutes from the break when Graeme Smith pushed out a shot from Hastie and Cammy Russell netted the rebound from a tight angle.

Dario Zanatta started and ended a move that almost drew Raith level midway through the second half when he sent Jamie Watson clear on the right before rushing forward to meet the full-back’s cross but his header flashed wide.

With 15 minutes left Vaughan rippled the side-netting with a curling free-kick from 25 yards and the Rovers man fired another dead ball just over the bar shortly afterwards.

The visitors finally levelled when home defender Jordan Mcgregor stabbed Jason Thomson’s cross into his own net under pressure from substitute Jonny Court.
