Grove Menzieshill already look on course to take their 20th title

-

Inverleith battled back from 4-0 down but still lost their opening game 7-4 to Bromac Kelburne in the indoor first division championships.

Three minutes into the second half, the Paisley side were cruising, but Inverleith pulled four goals back to level before Kelburne surged ahead again, their striker, Johnny Christie, scoring four in total. Inverleith restored some of their pride with a comfortable 5-1 win over Edinburgh rivals Grange, Patrick Christie’s hattrick the highlight, but were no match for Grove Menzieshill and went down 5-1 in the day’s final encounter.

Menzieshill completed their day’s treble with a 10-1 thumping of Grange followed by a 6-3 win over Kelburne and at this stage it is difficult to see anyone stopping the Taysiders’ quest for their 20th title.

Grange finally gained a point in a 6-6 draw with Hillhead, Callum Mackenzie on target with four goals, and Dundee Wanderers celebrated their return to the top flight with victories over Edinburgh University (7-5) and Clydesdale (7-4), Fergus Sandison their top scorer with six.

For the second week in a row Edinburgh University provided the shock of the day by holding champions Dundee Wanderers to a 3-3 draw in the women’s first division. Theedinburghstudentscelebrated their upset by thumping bottom side Kelburne 9-0 in their second outing.

Wanderers still hold pole position in the division, having seen off Tayside rivals Grove 6-1 in their opening match, but only by a point from Edinburgh University.
