Inanopenlettertoeunationals in the UK, the Prime Minister recognised the “underlying anxiety”thatbrexithascaused but said she was “delighted” that their rights would be protected under a deal with the EU on “divorce” issues dealt with in the first phase of exit negotiations.

However, her appeal was rejected by one of the leading groups representing EU citizens, who called the government’s plan for their rights after Brexit “flawed” and “deficient”.

The 3 Million campaign said the proposals “need fixing not embracing”, arguing that

‘We are going to leave, but we’re going to do so in a smooth and orderly way, securing a new, deep and special partnership with our friends’
