Brian Wilson: SNP offers only bloated rhetoric, spin and tax-tinkering

Giving the SNP tax raising powers is like giving me the keys to an Aston Martin...seems a good idea at the time until I get behind the wheel and remember I can’t drive .... car crash!

People who think this is a progressive tax can’t be business-minded. This will scare away investment, being the highest taxed part of the UK. The end result is Scotland will be worse off. Very silly move I think.

They are projected to raise less than £150m from this pointless exercise. The Scottish annual budget is £33bn, so the additional revenue is a drop in the ocean. This a completely pointless exercise which is entirely about political posturing.

My goodness, how Brian Wilson has changed since his days as a left-wing activist journalist. He has alas, turned into a grumpy reactionary. I cannot believe he doesn’t see that this proposed tax change is progressive and will help those less well-off in our country ...... it’s got to the point where anything ... anything ...the Scottish Government proposes must by definition be a bad thing. Sad really.
