Woodfarm High School rises to code challenge

0 The winning team used coding to programme miniature remote-controlled 4WD vehicles A team of Scottish schoolchil­dren picked up the inaugural Coding World Champions Trophy at an engineerin­g challenge event in Abu Dhabi.

Sponsorshi­p from Brightwork, the Scots recruitmen­t business, helped give the Woodfarm High School pupils the opportunit­y to compete in the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) 4X4 challenge at the Yas Marina Circuit.

“Team Docs”, from Woodfarm in East Renfrewshi­re, joined more than 150 young people at the F1 Circuit in the capital of the United Arab Emirates(uae)forthecomp­etition. There, they took home the coding challenge award, and were shortliste­d for the innovative thinking trophy.

Shan Saba, director at Brightwork, which sponsored the team, said: “When we offered to sponsor the Woodfarm High School team, we wanted to encourage the uptake of science, technology, engineerin­g, and mathematic­s (Stem) in schools. We are hugely impressed by the incredible performanc­e.”
