Bafta ceremony will ‘shine spotlight’ on harassment scandal

● Awards chief says winners get ‘powerful platform’ to make speeches

British actors have scored three out of the five nomination­s in a shortlist predicting the stars set for future success in the film world.

Daniel Kaluuya, Josh O’connor and Florence Pugh are in the running for this year’s EE Rising Star Award at next month’s Baftas.

They join American actor Timothee Chalamet, 22, who has already earned a best actor Golden Globe nomination for his role in Call Me By Your Name, and American actress Tessa Thompson, 34, who won fans with her role as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok.

Pugh, 21, from Oxfordshir­e, was praised for her debut in 2014’s The Falling, as well as her performanc­e in 2016’s Lady Macbeth. She said: “It 0 Florence Pugh featured in 2016’s Lady Macbeth means so much that my work has been embraced in the UK and that I get to share this recognitio­n with so many wonderfull­y talented actors.”

Kaluuya’s role in 2017 horror film Get Out was widely praised by critics and has earned him Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nomination­s. The
