WINNERS AND LOSERS
● Out: Sir Patrick Mcloughlin has left his role as chairman of the Conservative Party, paying the price for a poor performance in last year’s general election. Education Secretary Justine Greening quit rather than accept another job. Northern Ireland Secretary James Brokenshire resigned from his post to undergo surgery. ● Changing job: David Lidington becomes Minister for the Cabinet Office, taking over Brexit talks with devolved administrations. He is replaced as Justice Secretary by David Gauke, the first minister with a legal background to hold that position since 2012. Karen Bradley moves from Culture Secretary to replace Mr Brokenshire at the Northern Ireland Office. ● In: Brandon Lewis is charged with reviving the Conservative grassroots campaign operation as party chairman. He will be joined in Cabinet by a new deputy, James Cleverly, who only entered parliament in 2015 and has been tipped as a leadership prospect. The new Culture Secretary is Matt Hancock. Damian Hinds replaces Ms Greening at Education, and Esther Mcvey – a junior minister before losing her seat in 2015, she returned in 2017 – is the new Work and Pensions Secretary. ● Staying put: Scotland Secretary David Mundell and major figures including Home Secretary Amber Rudd, Chancellor Philip Hammond, Brexit Secretary David Davis and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson
