Doctors target ridding Tayside from Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C could be eradicated in part of Scotland within four years.
A scheme in Tayside is focusing on treating intravenous drug users to preventthespreadofthevirus, which can cause potentially fatal liver disease.
Professor John Dillon said there was “strong correlation” between the virus and people who injected illegal drugs, adding: “We will bring the prevalence in that population down from about 30 per cent down below 10 per cent, which means transmission will fall ... to below 1 per cent and that would lead to the extinction of the virus.”
