Elderly man badly hurt after being hit by cyclist

An elderly pedestrian was seriously injured after a collision with a cyclist in East Lothian.

The incident happened on Bridge Street in Tranent at 3:30pm on Saturday.

The 79-year-old man needed hospital treatment for a serious head injury.

Police said the crash was witnessed by several people.

Officers have urged anyone who has not yet contacted them to get in touch.

Police are particular­ly keen to speak to the cyclist involved who stopped to attend to the injured man.

He was riding a black and red bicycle and was wearing a helmet.

Sergeant Gary Taylor said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this collision who has not yet been in touch with us.

“We would particular­ly like to speak to the cyclist who stopped at the time.”
