Jobs under threat at Cameron House Hotel

- By PAUL WARD

Hundreds of jobs are under threat after the fire at Cameron House hotel which claimed the lives of two guest.

Around 300 workers are involved in a consultation with management as the majority of the hotel remains closed following the fire at the five-star resort on the banks of Loch Lomond on 18 December.

It is understood 155 staff on zero-hours contracts are part of the consultation, and have been paid until the middle of January with no current work available. The hotel employs a total of 450 people, with the lodges, golf course and Boathouse restaurant remaining open.

A meeting was held with staff at Dumbarton Football Club yesterday to inform them of the consultation.

Guests Simon Midgley, 32, and Richard Dyson, 38, from London, died in the fire while a family of two adults and a child were rescued by ladder.

More than 200 guests were evacuated from the hotel while dozens of firefighters fought the early morning blaze at the resort, which caused significant damage to the hotel roof.

Police and the fire service are investigating the cause of the fire.

Investigations into its cause are continuing.
