A sad spell
As a fellow left hander I fully agree with the sentiments in Colin Mcallister’s letter of 2 February. When I started school in the 1940s I was forced to write with my right hand simply because when using a nibbed pen and ink, the left hand would smudge the ink. With the advent of ballpoint pens this is no longer a problem. Mind, it was established ages ago that being forced to write with the wrong hand can sum times cause probblems with speling – fortunately it didn’t efect me.
