Lay off, Laura

-

I totally agree with David Edgar (Letters, 5 February) when he highlights the lack of respect shown to the Prime Minister by BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg during her visit to China last week.

Can anyone tell me why the BBC sent a news team half way round the world to quiz Theresa May on the state of the UK Government, Brexit negotiations and basically to ask whether she was up to the job? These questions could surely have been put to the PM at home in the Commons or at No 10 where they would have had more relevance.

The purpose of the visit to China was to promote trade to a huge potential customer and, indeed, I understand that billion-pound agreements were agreed during the visit. Surely this was a chance to ask some positive questions about the talks and how trade might develop in the future, rather than try to undermine our leaders in public yet again.
