U20 staff suspended over Wales incident
A number of members of the Scotland Under-20 rugby team coaching staff have been suspended pending the outcome of an internal disciplinary probe investigation, according to reports.
The probe is believed to concern an incident that took place in Llandudno in North Wales, shortly before the U20 Six Nations campaign began on 2 February. The incident reportedly led to one member of the Scotland backroom team being taken to hospital with broken ribs among other injuries.
Police in North Wales said a 30-year-old man had been arrested under suspicion of wounding and released under investigation, following a reported assault in the town at around 3.20am on Thursday 1 February. It is not thought any members of the Scotland U20s staff were the instigators of the incident.
An SRU statement confirmed that an internal disciplinary process involving members of the Scotland Under-20s backroom staff and coaching team was being conducted.
The statement continued: “The group are suspended until the disciplinary process has concluded and in the interim their roles will be taken on by appropriate staff. Scottish Rugby will make no further comment at this time.”
