Hyslop: Single market worth £2.3bn in trade with Dutch
More than £2 billion worth of exports from Scotland to the Netherlands are at risk if the UK leaves the EU single market, Scottish Government minister Fiona Hyslop has warned ahead of a visit to the Hague.
It comes as the Port of Dublin said it had already begun building customs facilities in anticipation of a hard Brexit.
The External Affairs Secretary said trade with Scotland’s second biggest export destination worth £2.3bn would be put in doubt in the event of a hard Brexit. Exports to the Netherlands account for 8 per cent of Scotland’s total.
Ahead of her meeting with Dutch ministers, Ms Hyslop said: “We do not believe Scotland is required to choose between the EU Single Market and continued trading relations with the UK.
“A solution can – and must – be reached that ensures Scotland can continue to benefit from both markets.”
