Airport could see economy ascend by at least £100m
0 Joyce Leslie of airport owner Morris Leslie Group said the company wants to develop the site A new report has calculated that Perth Airport could, in a best-case scenario, boost the surrounding economy by £106 million over 20 years.
The study was jointly commissioned by the airport’s owner Morris Leslie Group and Perth and Kinross Council’s investment arm Invest in Perth, and prepared by consultants Ekos in anticipation of the forthcoming £1.84 billion Tay Cities Deal and the projected £113m Cross Tay Link Road. The proposed sixkilometre Perth bypass will connect the A9 to the A94 close to the airport.
Joyce Leslie, a director of Morris Leslie Group, said the study had taken into consideration all options, “including our preferred course of developing the site to meet new opportunities”.
The owners of the airport, which supports 160 jobs, have called for a lifting of restrictions to allow for a mix of uses to maximise its future economic benefit under Perthshire’s development programme.
