Honour for officer killed in London terror attack

- By CATHERINE WYLIE

PC Keith Palmer has been posthumously honoured by the Metropolitan Police for his heroic response during last year’s Westminster terrorist attack.

The officer, who was stabbed to death when he confronted attacker Khalid Masood outside the Houses of Parliament on 22 March last year, was named the winner of the outstanding bravery of the year prize at the Met Excellence Awards.

On the day of the attack, PC Palmer, 48, a husband and father, was on duty at the Palace of Westminster.

He came face to face with Masood, who was armed with two large knives, moments after the terrorist drove into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge. The officer was fatally wounded during the incident, which came to a close when Masood was shot.

Last year it was announced he was to be awarded a George Medal.
