Saints look to build on win

-

St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson is determined to use their derby exploits as a springboard to rid them of inconsistency.

Saints host Hibernian this evening fresh from a 4-0 victory over Tayside rivals Dundee at Dens Park.

Victory could revive their Ladbrokes Premiership topsix hopes if Hearts were to falter against Partick Thistle tomorrow and Davidson is eager to ensure their Dens Park showing was no flash in the pan.

“It’s obviously good to go into the game on such a convincing win and it’s a game we can look forward to, but we have been here before and we need to try to build on what we did at the weekend,” he said.

“Any time you win, it doesn’t matter if you win 1-0 or 6-0, the mood is always a lot happier, so the result has lifted the place because we were a little disappointed in the couple of results before it.

“To win in such convincing fashion can only be good for us but we have to build on it. There is no use in sitting after the game on Friday saying we have let ourselves down. We need to get more consistency and we feel we are more than capable.” Celtic have approached Liverpool with a view to hosting the Anfield side in a testimonial match for long-serving captain Scott Brown.

The 32-year-old midfielder is now in his 11th season at Parkhead since signing from Hibs for £4.4 million in 2007 and it is understood Brendan Rodgers’ former side have been sounded out about a pre-season date in July or August.

Brown is on track to become the first captain in Scottish football to win a “double Treble,” and was honoured with a testimonial dinner this month. Both Celtic and Liverpool are believed to be holding talks on possible dates and, if a fixture is agreed, it would be the first time Rodgers has faced the Anfield side since he was replaced with Jurgen Klopp in October 2015.

The two teams have played 0 Scott Brown: Captain is now in his 11th season at Celtic. each other six times in European competition since the mid-1960s, with Liverpool winning just one match, drawing three, and losing twice.

Martin O’neill’s Celtic side defeated the Reds 3-1 on aggregate during their run to the 2003 Uefa Cup final, while Liverpool progressed on away goals in September 1997. The sides met in the 1966 Cup-winners’ Cup, with Liverpool winning 2-1 on aggregate.
