Stamped out

-

There has been very little advance notice that stamp prices are to be increased again on Monday. The increase is to be 2p on the basic first and second class rates, but the 250g first class rate increase is even more punitive at nearly 8 per cent, from £1.30 to £1.40.

When I asked in the Crown Post Office in Inverness for the new prices leaflet on Thursday they had none, neither did they have any of the 2nd class Scottish saltire definitives. I also keep asking for the Scottish stamps at my local sub post office.

Occasionally I am lucky, but more often I am told they were ordered but have not been supplied.

Royal Mail is letting down Post Office Counters and our whole nation. It begs the question – is it Royal Mail’s longterm aim to phase out our national stamps?
