Divisive pairing
With speakers such as Greens co-covenor Patrick Harvie and SNP MP Joanna Cherry headlining a pro-eu rally in Edinburgh this weekend, event organisers are going to have to try hard to achieve broad appeal across Scottish Remain voters. Judging by opinion polls, many are suspicious that separatists such as Harvie and Cherry are using Brexit to agitate for indyref2. Yet most pro-eu unionists struggle to buy into Nicola Sturgeon’s tortuous nonsequitur that Scotland must leave the UK because the UK is leaving the EU.
Arguably more pro-uk supporters than separatists voted Remain. For them the likes of Harvie and Cherry alienate more than they appeal.
