Rhinoceros
Can you hear it, that terrible rampaging and snorting echoing through the city streets? For Berenger, the unlikely hero of Eugene Ionesco’s 1959 satirical masterpiece, it’s the sound of his fellow-citizens suddenly morphing into a band of thundering, destructive rhinoceroses, eager only to be part of the herd. Now, the Lyceum revives its superb and timely five-star co-production with DOT Theatre of Istanbul, first seen during last year’s Edinburgh International Festival; look out for a fine central performance from Robert Jack, terrific urban design by Tom Piper, and a thrilling score of wild, waltzing Turkish dance tunes, played live on stage by composer Oguz Kaplangi. ■ Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh, until 7 April, 0131-248 4848
