Neighbours tell of shock after baby is hospitalised following flat incident
A ten-month-old girl is in a “serious” condition in hospital after sustaining “serious” injuries at a flat in Dundee, police said yesterday.
The girl was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee on Easter Sunday following an “incident” at a flat in the city’s Kerrsview Terrace.
She was later taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh where she remains in what police described as a “serious but stable” condition.
Detectives said they had launched an inquiry along with Dundee City Council’s social work department and the NHS, but added that the baby’s injuries were “as yet unexplained”.
Yesterday, a police officer guarded the door of the flat, located in a block of four on a residential street yards from Dundee’s Kingsway outer ring road.
Neighbours said they were “shocked” at the news of the incident.
One local resident said: “I did notice a bit of police activity but I didn’t take much notice of it. I’m shocked that it has turned out to be something so serious.
“I pray the wee one is OK. Nobody really knows exactly what has gone on but hopefully the police work it out quickly.”
Detective Inspector Ray Birnie, of Police Scotland Tayside Division’s Public Protection Unit, said: “Police Scotland received a report that a 10 month old child had sustained serious injuries within a property in Kerrsview Terrace, Dundee at around lunchtime on Sunday, 1 April. The child remains in a serious but stable condition having been transferred to the Royal Hospital For Sick Children in Edinburgh. Inquiries into this incident are at an early stage and we are conducting these in partnership with Dundee City Council Social Work Department and the NHS.”
