Failed by planners
I am getting very irritated listening to politicians of all hues moaning about the terrible burden being placed on the National Health Service by elderly people with complex health problems and who are also ‘bed-blocking’.
Might I remind them that these are the same people who were born when the troops returned from the Second World War? This spike in the birth rate was going to have predictable consequences. It is not rocket science, you can do the calculations on the back of an envelope, when you will require additional school places, jobs, housing, maternity services, etc.
Governments have had 70 years to plan for increased demand now for medical care and for social and residential care.
It is the so-called planners who have failed the older generation, stop blaming us!
