St Mirren Nervous nineties

-

If the majority of the season has been a fairly comfortable ride at the top of the table with promotion as champions almost a formality, the past week has felt like the equivalent of cricket’s “nervous nineties”. Having taken an early lead at Brechin, hoping in vain for Livingston to slip up against Morton so that we could crack open the champagne, Saints limped over the line to gain the three points, having made a lucky escape when a City effort came back off the bar.

With the title virtually in our grasp at Tannadice on Tuesday, the ball was just never going to go in the net as Saints lost 1-0. Logic tells us that it is only a matter of time before the Championship is won, but I will be very relieved when it is all over.
