‘ Grumpy old men’ kicked out of club

- By SARAH WARD

Five members of a golf club have been asked to leave after complaining about jeans and mobile phones in the clubhouse, white vans in the car park and mugs instead of tea cups.

The five friends, were members of the exclusive golf club at the Manor House Hotel, in Castle Combe, Wiltshire, nestled on the edge of the Cots - wolds. They paid £1,800 a year to tee- off at the 365- acre site which was designed by the BBC golfing commentator Peter Alliss.

The friends spent many happy years playing there but Will S crivens, 72, Colin Weekley, 71, Chris El worthy ,70, John Swales, 71, and Roger Brack, 73, have now been kicked out.

They said they were told they were no longer welcome as they seemed “unhappy” and had been moaning too much about falling standards.

Some members of the group had been grumbling about the club, including allowing jeans, trainers and T- shirts to be worn in the clubhouse.
