#NATIONALTESTING
One of Nicola Sturgeon’s closest advisers has warned that national testing of young school pupils in Scotland is not the best way to improve standards. @Amydonnellan said: “The tests are a waste of money and teaching time. I know of schools who are already putting things in place so they can teach to the test. More trust needs to be put into the professionalism of our teachers and more money into learning not testing.” @Jenniferdunlop wrote: “Children under eight at least should not be put into a testing mode. Surely teachers can see for themselves how a child is progressing without tests.” @Stuartjcampbell added: “The Finnish have the best education. We should adapt ours to their model.”
#VANILLA
Crop failures in Madagascar, where most of the world’s vanilla is produced, have pushed prices up to the point that the spice is now more expensive than silver. @Rosinacarley said: “I am seriously worried about the vanilla shortage. I only like that type of ice cream. Perhaps made with clotted cream and taken with a flake.” @ochauro wrote: “What? Ice or yoghurt without vanilla? I hope production of the same will be improved so as we don’t miss this favourite taste.” @Paulrred1 added: “Bit of a boring flavour for ice cream anyway.”
