The closure of S TV 2 is hardly surprising news, but it highlights the problems the BBC will face when it shunts quality Scottish programmes from BBC 2 off to abackwaterch ann el. Also, the proposed BBC flag ship Nine O’ Clock Scottish News will be competing against peak viewing programmes on the main channels.

Also concerning is S TV’ s reduction of Edinburgh news and sports coverage from 30 minutest oaten-minute optin segment and the threat to our only daily current affairs programme, Scotland Tonight, as they axe 34 jobs from their news coverage.

Having sabotaged the Scottish Six proposals in 2007, Labour should now apologise for not supporting demands that broadcasting be devolved under the 2016 Scotland Act in order to ensure both STV and BBC fulfil their obligations to Scotland.
