On Thursday Alex Salmond said, in his “Morningsid­e declaratio­n” that he would return to frontline politics as soon as Nicola Sturgeon fires the starting gun for a second independen­ce referendum.

Yes, because a politician who was dumped by the electorate and went on to become a “stand-up comedian” and political commentato­r on the national broadcaste­r for a hostile state is likely to swing a vote for you right enough! Bung

“Morningsid­e Declaratio­n”? Pretentiou­s much? Really this has only been a matter of time. It has been long surmised that Salmond has viewed the SNP as his personal fiefdom. It must have rankled that he wasn’t in the front or it. Question is will he return to Holyrood or his beloved Westminste­r? Suburban Wolf

Give Alex Salmond some credit, against the overwhelmi­ng odds in the 2014 referendum. It would have taken a swing of 5.3% or 191,970 votes from No to Yes and the Yes campaign would have won. Of course, this does not change the result but... Rocabarrai­gh
