Murray backs new app to get more on court

-

Andy Murray has backed a new tennis app designed to make it easier and more affordable for people to take up the game.

The app, called Deuce and due to launch just before Wimbledon, aims to match players of all ages and abilities with sessions or courts at clubs or parks close to where they live.

Murray’s investment in Deuce – the brainchild of the former tennis director at Gosling Sports Park, Matt Willcocks – represents the first time he has backed a tennis-specific business.

Murray said: “There are lots of schemes for encouraging participation, but this is the first time I’ve backed something like this. The team behind Deuce are really impressive and they have a working knowledge of tennis and tennis clubs, so they really understand the issues and the potential.

“Tennis is such a great sport with so many benefits – physical, mental and social – but we simply don’t have enough people playing in this country.

“We need to fill empty courts with people playing more often. Deuce uses today’s technology to do this in a simple, welcoming and affordable way.”
