Ruth speaks truth

-

I read Ruth Davidson’s speech to the Policy Exchange in London. As a summary of the last 11 years, the current situation and her way forward it was excellent.

Thank fully she cautioned against complacency, espe - cially since Alastair Darling, Jim Murphy and even Michael Govewerewri tin goff the threat of Indyref2.

They hugely miss the point. Historians will call the period since 2007 Scotland’s lost years. The next three years will be blighted by Ni cola Sturgeon’s need to further debilitate and divide Scotland by kicking off the Indy ref just ahead of the next party conference or election.

Her ideas on how to move forward reassured and enthused me, insisting that the work with the SNP on Brexit is actually productive, collaborative and a model for future relations, and signalling the need to spread UK organisations out of London, not as devolution but as ways of uniting the UK.

All pro- union parties should espouse this hopeful message. I have heard Willie Rennie do this but, other than vague talk about federalism I haven’t a clue where Richard Leonard stands. And all of them need tell us their policies for government, especially fixing and improving our devolved responsibilities such as health, education and housing. ALLAN SUTHERLAND Willow Row, Stonehaven Good try by Ruth Davidson with her proclamation that we should have a UK bid for the World Cup which would lead to a greater bond between us. The problem with that is as I, Ruth and everyone else knows Fifa would insist that only a UK side could compete. That UK side would include how many Scots players, Ruth?
