Teenager stabbed in bank holiday beach brawl

- By JAMES DELANEY

A teenager was stabbed in a beach brawl in Troon as thousands of revellers descended on the beach over the sunny weekend.

Witnesses said the 16-year-old was hit over the head with two glass bottles before being stabbed in the leg as two groups of youngsters clashed on Sunday afternoon.

Officers escorted the youths back on to trains at Troon station while the stabbing victim was taken to Kilmarnock’s Crosshouse Hospital. A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said last night: “A 16-year-old boy was was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock shortly afterwards and inquiries are ongoing.”

Last year, an estimated 6,000 youths arrived on the sand for the Troon “beach party”, which ended with officers seizing hundreds of bottles of alcohol from revellers.
